Baby Clothes Quilt & Review!

Here are some pictures of a baby clothes quilt I recently finished up. My customer just received the quilt a couple days ago, and sent me the sweetest email that I just have to share (I’m blushing as I copy & paste it!):

You amazing masterpiece arrived today. After working a very, very long 12 hours I came home and opened the box with the most beautiful quilt ever!! in it. I seriously spent about 20 minutes just looking at it and marveling at the beauty and creativity of it. It is just simply perfect! (not simple though 🙂 ).
The Riley section may be my favorite. The way you put the leash on it and the animals???? I seriously could not have imagined how spectacular it would turn out. It made me teary just thinking of Riley and seeing all her things again. The quilt is proudly on my bed right now. My husband and I have a king size but the quilt is mostly on mine 🙂
I could not be happier! So THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! You did a fabulous job. I am so grateful. I will tell you once again how gifted you are and talented. Thank YOU for sharing your gift.

This one actually includes 4 separate sections: 1 section of the husband & wife’s memorable clothes from things like their first date, honeymoon, etc, 1 section of their beloved dog Riley’s beds, sweaters & toys (she had recently passed away,) and 1 section of clothes for each of her daughters. Such a cute idea, and such a cute quilt!

The vast majority of the quilts I do are baby clothes quilts, with quite a few t-shirt quilts and memorial quilts thrown in for good measure. (It’s probably about 70/30.) But every once in a while, I do something really unique, and it’s a fun break from quilting with clothes!

A previous client had a great idea – she wanted to turn her daughter’s crayon drawing into an original throw quilt, and I couldn’t love the way it turned out any more!

I used Kona 100% cotton solids to match up all of the colors in the artwork, and found the perfect Michael Miller 100% cotton for the backing. Each free-form circle was appliqued with matching thread. Circles were stitched with a loose spiral, to keep the free-form, “children’s art” feel. I used a meandering stitch for the negative space.

She loved it, I loved it, my Facebook fans loved it, and I had a blast doing something different & pushing myself out of my comfort zone!! Those who know me know I rarely back down from a sewing challenge! 🙂

Full Sized Baby Clothes Quilt – Boy & Girl Clothes Combined

I get quite a few questions about mixing boy & girl clothes into one larger quilt. Here’s an example of one quilt that does just that!

Tooth Fairy Pillow – Live & In Action!

Yesterday was a big day at Jelly Bean Quilts… my 4-year-old daughter Kalista lost her very first tooth!!!!

This was all very exciting for all of the obvious big-girl-now reasons (although she is a little sad because she “really loved her little tooth & will miss it so much!”) But I had some extra reasons to be excited… she finally got to use her tooth fairy pillow!

Of course we had to have a little fresh-out-of-the-bath, bedtime photo shoot! 🙂

We just slipped the tooth in the little pocket (easier than the old under-the-pillow method for everyone involved – most of all the tooth fairy!) and the tooth fairy did her thang & left Kalista a federal reserve note of her very own.

Memories were made, everyone was happy, and my little baby is growing up too fast!!!
