The vast majority of the quilts I do are baby clothes quilts, with quite a few t-shirt quilts and memorial quilts thrown in for good measure. (It’s probably about 70/30.) But every once in a while, I do something really unique, and it’s a fun break from quilting with clothes!
A previous client had a great idea – she wanted to turn her daughter’s crayon drawing into an original throw quilt, and I couldn’t love the way it turned out any more!
I used Kona 100% cotton solids to match up all of the colors in the artwork, and found the perfect Michael Miller 100% cotton for the backing. Each free-form circle was appliqued with matching thread. Circles were stitched with a loose spiral, to keep the free-form, “children’s art” feel. I used a meandering stitch for the negative space.
She loved it, I loved it, my Facebook fans loved it, and I had a blast doing something different & pushing myself out of my comfort zone!! Those who know me know I rarely back down from a sewing challenge! đŸ™‚
